This morning we left Johannesburg and headed East on the
N12. The initial flat surroundings
changed spectacularly at Waterval Boven where the Drekansberg escarpment’s last
edge gives way to the lowlying areas that’s known as the Lowveld. At Nelspruit we stocked up for food and then
headed north, parallel with the Kruger National Park border through Hazyview
and past Acornhoek in the Busch Buck Ridge Subdistrict of Mpumalanga. The winding road leads through valleys and
around hills and it never stopped raining from Johannesburg until when we
arrived at the Wits Rural Facility.
Striking was the densely populated rural areas around Bush Buck Ridge
town where tiny to large brick houses stretch towards the horizon as far as the
eye can see…
At the Wits Rural Facility we were welcomed by Olivera and
helped to find the Bushcamp by Bethuel. Wits
Rural Facility is on a game farm on the road to the Orpen gate of the Kruger
Park. On the way to the bush camp we saw
3 giraffe and on arrival 5 around 50 impala were grazing on the grass in front
of the thatched huts. The evening bush
sounds were magical and it felt like we have arrived at a holiday destination.
